I need escapism
i was around age 5 when my father allowed an elder and his wife into our home for a bible study.
my father never got baptized and left the religion completely when i was 12. he would tell the family that when he retires he would return to the religion.
he never went into absolutely why he left, but i think it has to do with the fact he reported an elder's daughter making out with a "worldly" guy, and it was my father that got lambasted.
My dad invited the witnesses into our house, my mum would never have. My dad got baptised as a witness in 1958 when I was 4, my mum wasn't interested. My dad very quickly stopped going (don't really know why). They carried on calling on my mum, persuaded her to have a study and they studied with her for 10 years, at the same time they (the witnesses) got my mum to get other witnesses to have studies with my sister and I. Bombardment! My sister and I were many times over the 10 years made to go to the meetings on our own, we were taken to assemblies by the people who were studying with us and taken on the ministry, no sign of my mum or dad!
By the time my mum got the courage to tell her family (that I think was holding her back) I was 14 and well indoctrinated myself by then. We all went to meetings etc and my dad happily stayed at home watching tv.
He went back a few times but always stopped very quickly. I never even asked him why until years later when I myself was having doubts. He said there was a lot he didn't agree with. I asked him what attracted him in the first place, he said he wanted to see his mum again (he was 14 when she died) and now I guess I never will. I thought that was so sad. My mum and dad are both 85 now, my dad is waiting to die and my mum is still waiting for the new system!

Raising a glass to say cheers to someone. I recently did this when at a funeral with my relatives. I still felt awkward though as my jw sister was there!
Skirts; I don't think I've worn one since I stopped going to meetings.
No more teatowells on head lol.
Never having to stand holding magazines by a literature cart, looking embarrassed.
Wishing happy Xmas back to someone instead of mumbling thanks.

My husband was inactive until last year, it took two visits from an elder to get him back to meetings.
i believe that the religion will remain stagnant due to their achilles heel, the kids, the children, that next generation.. most of them really don't wa t to be in the religion.
the parents may have tried everything within their power to make the kids love jehovah but we all know you can't force someone to love you and you can't make a grown person stay in a relationship or situation if they really don't want to be there..
I did a good job with my children, all five are out. In fact it was their critical thinking that convinced me who had many doubts over the years to leave once and for all.
They all believe in evolution (which I still can't grasp) as opposed to their father who gets angry with them when they argue with him, I am and have always been open-minded and willing to really listen to other's opinions. None of them believe in God and I actually envy them that they are so sure about this because I am still not sure about this (indoctrination runs deep). I do know for sure though that the witnesses are NOT God's chosen organization and I don't believe that any are.

what went through you mind?.
I never wanted to die so wasn't I 'lucky' that my mum became a witness so I never would. Except we didn't believe in luck did we. Didn't we all feel so smug that we were the only people on the earth who were not going to die, although I never liked thinking about what we had to go through to get to that point; great tribulation, persecution, Armageddon, and everyone else on the planet being killed so that we could live! I was never happy about any of that.
I never wanted to get old and believed I never would. I left school at 15 got a job, didn't pay into a pension (would never need it) better to have the money then. I am now much older than I ever thought I would be and have believed for a number of years now that I am definitely going to die. I don't really know exactly when I came to that realisation because it took years of internal wrestling for me to come to terms that I wasn't 'in the truth' and that everything I had believed was false. I don't believe that I was blind, or stupid, none of us were. We were brainwashed, indoctrinated.
Yes I am going to die and there is nothing I can do about it. I am resigned to this, unlike a lot of witnesses I know who still believe they are not! I know a few who have categorically stated "I have no intention of dying", one said this to her grandson. I feel he will one day be disappointed.
I wonder is it better to believe you are going to die and accept it or believe you are not and have all your dreams dashed when you realise you are.

what is god's spirit?

i ask this of those who believe in god.
there are many on here who state specific changes in wt publications have caused them to start questioning (understandably you would think), and yet the majority don't.
why is it only a few individuals that do this?
curious as to what others think about this.
